Self-managed Support at Home gives you greater control over choosing and arranging services, but your registered provider still holds responsibility for care management, safety, compliance, government claims and oversight. You can self-manage as much or as little as suits your circumstances.
Self-management can be substantially cheaper when you find a lower-cost worker, even after the provider’s permitted overhead. However, compare the final price, reliability and administrative work not just the worker’s advertised hourly rate.

The main risks are administrative burden, unreliable workers, gaps in essential care and poor budget control. These risks can be reduced through clear written responsibilities, approved workers, regular budget monitoring and a reliable backup-care plan.
